Author Guidelines

Brief Chronicles follows the conventions of the Chicago manual of Style.

Please adhere to the following rules of thumb:

1) Submit your manuscript in a .doc, .docx, or .rtf file format;

2) Remove your name from your submission (we use a double-blind peer review process to protect the integrity of our submission and evaluation procedures);

3) If you like, submit a separate cover sheet including all your contact information;

4) Double-space, and include page numbers and header for every page;

5) Follow accepted conventions for quotations, long and short;

6) Italicize the names of titles of complete works; use quote marks to designate the titles of articles or short works appearing in other complete works;

7) Use footnotes with full bibliographical details entered in the first footnote;

8) Successive footnotes based on an already detailed source use the author’s last name only, and a short version of the title, in quotation marks (short work) or italics (full work) to identify the source;

9) Do not use ibid or op cit conventions;

10) Italicize foreign words;

11) Use either original or modern spelling of early modern documents, depending on the purposes of your article. Whatever you do, be consistent in your practice. Although modern spelling is easier for most readers to negotiate, if you have particular reasons for citing in original spelling, you may do so;

12) Indicate the act, scene, and line numbers of all quotations from plays (as well as, in a footnote, the particular edition used), as follows: (2.3.75-78).

For further details please consult:

The official Chicago Manual site.

Or the Chicago Manual site citation guide.

And examine the conventions used in the first issue.
